Appalachian Trail

This driving route parallels the hiking trail, from the top of New England to the heart of Dixie, taking you through continuous natural beauty—without the sweat, bugs, or blisters.

Dinosaur Land

Located at the intersection of US-340 and US-522, eight miles southeast of Winchester near the hamlet of White Post, Dinosaur Land (540/869-2222, daily Jan.-Oct., closed Thurs. rest of year, $5) displays an entertaining and marvelously kitschy collection of man-made sharks, cavemen, and, of course, dinosaurs. It’s especially fun for kids, who are welcome to climb on and around the concrete menagerie. Wry-humored adults will enjoy searching through the very large gift shop, which has all manner of cheesy souvenirs.
