The Loneliest Road

From Kansas City, and its noteworthy neighboring towns of Independence and Liberty, US-50 makes a lazy trek across Missouri’s rolling-prairie farmlands, stopping at the historic railroad town of Sedalia before reaching the state capital, Jefferson City, roughly midway across.

Continuing east, climbing through hardwood forests of the Ozark uplands, US-50 leads to a number of similarly slow but more interesting old roads like Hwy-100, which winds through a number of historic towns along the banks of the Missouri River before approaching St. Louis, at the eastern edge of the state.
