VERMONT

Starting at the state’s northwestern corner, US-2 crosses the heart of verdant Vermont. From the shores of Lake Champlain, our route winds south to the university town of Burlington, then east past Montpelier, the state capital, all the way to New Hampshire, some 150 miles in all. Paralleled for much of the way by the modern I-89 freeway, US-2 makes a slower but much more diverting alternative to the fast lane, passing through some of the state’s most attractive small towns and giving an up-close look at its rural charms, not to mention Vermont’s untrammelled mountains, forests, lakes, and rivers.
