There may be more picturesque places elsewhere in the state, but the as-yet unspoiled fishing village of Murrells Inlet, 12 miles south of Myrtle Beach, is definitely worth a stop for the chance to sample the dozens of excellent seafood restaurants lining a short business loop off US-17. For the best and freshest seafood, head to Nance’s Creekfront (843/357-8277), right on the water at 4883 US-17; other good bets range from Flo’s Place (which has great key lime pie) at the north end to the rustic Oliver’s Lodge a mile south, in business since 1910. And if you’ve got the time and inclination to catch your own seafood, sportfishing charter boats run from the marina, or you can put on some waders and head into the waters in search of clams, mussels, oysters, and crabs.
